Emmalee performed “How Will I Know” by Whitney Houston during The Voice Blind Auditions (Season 19). Her amazing version of one of Whitney’s biggest hits earned chair turns from coaches John Legend and Kelly Clarkson. Emmalee said John and Kelly were her top two so it’s a dream to have both of them sitting there. In the end, Emmalee went with her gut and chose Kelly as her coach.

It’s funny because over the last three seasons, I’ve been trying to get someone to do, like, a cool version of either “How Will I Know” or “I Want to Dance with Somebody” but they always pick the other choice I give them. And you did it today, that’s so cool. And you executed it beautifully. Your voice is lovely, it’s crystal clear. Your tone is just really nice to listen to. You’ll notice I turned for you very quickly. Because I’m all about tone. And when I hear that tone in somebody, I don’t need to wait for you to get to the second chorus. I’m like, “Okay, I know I want to work with that person,” because I know what you have.

I’ve never heard that song done like that. Was that your idea? (Emmalee replied “Yes”.) Wow! I think that you’re really awesome. I love creative people.

I think your talent, just like John, is so beautiful. That’s obviously why I turned around. And it was actually the very first song I ever auditioned with anything in my life. That’s the song. I love Whitney. But I loved how you did it. It was really, really cool. And it definitely does show your artistry. And I think that’s really cool for you to maybe continue wherever you end up for you to kind of twist songs like that. You have no vibrato. You have air for days. That’s a compliment. Are you a swimmer? (Emmalee replied, “Definitely not.”)
