Blake Shelton’s comment
First of all, hats off to both of you, guys.
They rehearsed this song and performed it in front of Kane Brown. I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say all of this falls on me because I just think that this pairing made sense on paper. I’d have done that different if I could because you’re [John Sullivan] more the story-teller type singer, you know. And that’s what you’re really good at.
But, Jim’s just naturally such a big vocalist, and you’re [Jim] really talented.
Gwen Stefani’s comment
When John [Sullivan] came in, it’s not what you expect to come out of your mouth. You’re very subtle with your performance, but it was engaging in such a simple kind of way. So, I thought you did really great with that.
But, as the performance was going on and on, it felt like Jim was just ramping up and up. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you [Jim]. I would go with Jim.
John Legend’s comment
What a fun rendition of the song. Had, like, just a nice, sunny vibe.
John [Sullivan], I think your voice has lots of character. It’s very inviting. It just sounds like you would be a fun person to hang out with.
Jim, your voice has more soul and grit to it. It made sense that you were a campus pastor and a worship leader. So much of being a minister is being able to control the room.
So, I would lean toward Jim, but I thought both of you were fantastic.
Kelly Clarkson’s comment
It was like the beautiful marriage of Keith Urban and John Mayer to me. It was a really cool vibe. I kind of felt sorry for Blake for most of the song ’cause I was like, “Wow.” I was like, “It’s pretty evenly matched.”
But, Jim, you came in pretty hot there at the end and, like, jumped up. And you’re a risk taker in that sense and it was surprising.
But, John [Sullivan], I loved it.
