The Little Mermaid 2023
The Little Mermaid 2023 is an American musical fantasy film directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Into the Woods, Mary Poppins Returns). It is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s 1989 animated film of the same name, which itself is loosely based on the 1837 fairy tale of the same title by written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen. The screenplay is by David Magee with a story adaptation by Magee, Rob Marshall, and John DeLuca. The Little Mermaid is scheduled to be released theatrically in the United States on May 26, 2023, by Disney.
The film was co-produced by Walt Disney Pictures, DeLuca Marshall, and Marc Platt Productions. Lin-Manuel Miranda co-wrote new songs for the remake as the lyricist, while Alan Menken returned as the composer for both the score and songs. The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey in the titular role, along with Jonah Hauer-King, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem, and Melissa McCarthy.
