Painkiller 2023

Painkiller is an American drama limited series made for Netflix and created by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster. The six-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix on August 10, 2023.

The series is based on Patrick Radden Keefe’s New Yorker article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” and Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic by Barry Meier. Painkiller will focus on the birth of the op–id crisis with an emphasis on Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of OxyContin. It will be highlighting the stories of perpetrators, victims, and truth-seekers whose lives are forever altered by the invention of the semi-synthetic painkiller.

Painkiller is directed by Peter Berg, who also serves as executive producer along with Micah Fitzerman-Blue, Alex Gibney, Noah Harpster, Patrick Radden Keefe, and Eric Newman. Starring Uzo Aduba, Matthew Broderick, Sam Anderson, Taylor Kitsch, and Carolina Bartczak.
