Nyad 2023
Nyad is an American biographical sports drama film directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, in their first narrative feature directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Julia Cox, based on Nyad’s autobiography Find a Way. Nyad is set to be released in select US theaters on October 20, 2023, before a streaming debut on Netflix on November 3, 2023.
The drama film is produced by Andrew Lazar and Teddy Schwarzman. It had its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on September 1, 2023. Nyad stars Annette Bening as swimmer Diana Nyad, alongside Jodie Foster and Rhys Ifans.
Nyad recounts a riveting chapter in the life of world-class athlete Diana Nyad. Thirty years after giving up marathon swimming in exchange for a career as a sports journalist, at the age of 60, Diana becomes obsessed with completing an epic swim that always eluded her: the 110 mile trek from Cuba to Florida, which is considered as the “Mount Everest” of swims. Driven to become the first person to finish the swim without a shark cage, she goes on a four-year journey with her best friend and coach Bonnie Stoll (Foster) and a dedicated sailing team.
