When Calls the Heart is an American television drama series, inspired by Janette Oke’s bestselling book of the same name from her Canadian West series, and developed by Michael Landon Jr. The series began airing on the Hallmark Channel in the United States on January 11, 2014, and, in Canada, on April 16, 2014, on Super Channel. It was renewed through to an 11th season, which will premiere on April 7, 2024 at 9/8c on the Hallmark Channel.
The series follows the story of a schoolteacher and single mother, Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow), in the quaint town of Hope Valley. With the help and guidance of the townspeople and her friends, she adjusts to the ever-changing times and the people that enter her life.
In season 11, Elizabeth embarks on a fresh start – with new romance, new challenges, and new style. She and Mountie Nathan Grant navigate their growing romantic feelings while also leaning on each other for support as they face new parenting obstacles. Newly elected Governor Lucas Bouchard must confront his past in order to embrace his strengths and lead Hope Valley into the future. Retired Mountie Bill Avery and newspaper reporter Rosemary Coulter team up to unravel a mystery putting their entire community at risk. The new season explores renewal, redemption, and romance as Hope Valley enters the 1920’s.
When Calls the Heart originated from a two-hour television movie pilot in October 2013, starring Maggie Grace as Elizabeth Thatcher and Stephen Amell as Mounted Police officer Wynn Delaney.
