The underwater adventure 2018 movie, “Aquaman” (starring Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, and directed by James Wan), has become the highest grossing film based on a DC Comics character to date.
“Aquaman” has earned a staggering $316.5 million in the US and Canada markets, putting it in the middle of Iron Man 2 (2010) and Iron Man (2008) which earmed USD $312 million and USD $318 million respectively.
The current grand total earnings of “Aquaman” is USD $1.091 billion worldwide. And that makes it surpass the worldwide earnings of “The Dark Knight Rises” (2012) which is USD $1.084 billion. Not only that, “Aquaman” also has become the 25th biggest grosser of all time. Note that “Aquaman” didn’t even have the biggest budget in among the DC films.
Aside from “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Aquaman” also surpassed the earnings of the biggest DC Comics movie ever, the “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” (2016) movie which earned USD $873 million worldwide.
Passing the billion dollar mark, “Aquaman” now sits behind the worldwide gross of the following legendary movies:
– “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2” (2011) which has USD $1.342 billion earnings, and also the third-biggest Time Warner/Warner Media movie of all time.
– “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) which has USD $1.153 billion earnings.
– “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” (2011) which has USD $1.123.
– “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” (2003) which has USD $1.119 billion earnings.
– “Skyfall” (2012) which has USD $1.108 billion earnings.
– “Transformers: Age of Extinction” (2014) which has USD $1.104 billion earnings.
