“Hobbs and Shaw” is Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming movie, a “Fast & Furious” spin-off. And just recently, in an interview, Dwayne Johnson confirmed that he is not part of “Fast & Furious 9” which is set to be released on April 10, 2020. But he didn’t rule out the possibility of him being on the future “Fast & Furious” movies.

According to Dwayne Johnson, “The plan has always been for the Fast and Furious universe to grow and expand.” He also added, “As of now, we’re not in Fast 9 because they’re getting ready to start shooting. But who knows with Fast 10 and down the road, you never know. Because look, at the end of the day, the truth is, there’s unfinished business between Hobbs and Dom. It’s unfinished.”

Dwayne Johnson saying that Hobbs and Dom have unfinished business is true, but there are some real-life dynamics that might come into play when it comes to the “Fast & Furious” franchise.

In 2018, it was reported that Dwayne Johnson had a feud with co-star Vin Diesel while shooting “The Fate of The Furious” in 2017. Aside from Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel feud, there were also issues with co-star Tyrese Gibson. In Tyrese Gibson’s case, he was upset that the “Hobbs & Shaw” movie pushed back the release date of the 2020 movie, “Furious 9”.

Tyrese Gibson stated in 2018, “I found myself being the messenger on behalf of various people associated with the franchise. But stupid me was the only that went public about those feelings, which is my own fault. It’s not professional. It’s not cool.”

Actors’ differences aside, even if Dwayne Johnson won’t ever return to future “Fast & Furious” series, there will definitely be more projects for Hobbs. With “Hobbs & Shaw”, it opens opportunities for new spin-off movies. Actually, there’s one in the works right now. In 2018, Vin Diesel confirmed that a female spin-off of the “Fast & Furious” movie is being discussed at Universal Pictures.

According to Vin Diesel on an Instagram video in October 2018, “My producing partner who started Fast & Furious with me, Neal Moritz, is also my producing partner here and his head is blown. He just can’t contain his excitement about what the world will see when they see Bloodshot in 2020. I have a guest here from the Fast world, someone who surprised. Shout out to universal for wanting my female spin-off concept and my other spin-off concept the two that you guys…we’re all good.”

Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019)

Vin Diesel announced in an interview with Variety that potential spin-offs were in the early stages of development. A spin-off film centered around Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw was announced by Universal and set with a release date of July 26, 2019, with Variety reporting that Shane Black was being considered to direct and Morgan returning to write the script.

The announcement of the spin-off provoked a response on Instagram by Tyrese Gibson, criticizing Johnson for causing the ninth Fast & Furious film to be delayed for another year.

On October 23, 2017, Dwayne Johnson posted a video on Instagram which showed the finished script for the spin-off, titled Hobbs & Shaw. In February 2018, David Leitch entered talks to direct the film, which was confirmed later that April.

In March 2018, it was reported that the film would start production in September 2018. In May 2018, the release date of the film was pushed back a week to August 2, 2019. On July 5, 2018, Idris Elba was cast to play the villain.
