Reggie Fils-Aimé has recently announced he is retiring as Nintendo of America’s President. According to a video that was put out by Nintendo and an official press release, Reggie Fils-Aimé is going to be stepping down as of April 15, 2019.
The press release stated that Reggie Fils-Aimé is going to be succeeded by Doug Bowser, who is currently Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
You might remember when Doug Bowser first came on the scene, it was a big deal because the Super Mario character, Bowser, was working for Nintendo and now it’s crazy to think that a guy with the last name of “Bowser” is going to be running Nintendo of America. Yes, it’s just a name but we’re definitely going to hear this joke over and over again for the next few weeks.
Reggie Fils-Aimé has been a big part of Nintendo now for over 15 years. Who can forget when Reggie Fils-Aimé first stepped onstage in May 2004 at Nintendo’s E3 press conference and said “My name is Reggie. I’m about kicking ass. I’m about taking names and we’re about making games.”
At that point, Nintendo had this clean kind of kids image and seeing Reggie Fils-Aimé go onstage and say those things, it was mind-blowing. It was this new chapter in Nintendo’s history and it has really set the stage for what Nintendo fans are going to see in the future.
Remember in 2007 when Reggie Fils-Aimé got on stage at E3, he stepped on the balance board from Wii Fit and said the famous line “My body is ready.” It was such an amazing moment. Reggie Fils-Aimé loved the fans and he wasn’t like any other president of any other company. He was kind, he was funny, he was caring. Reggie Fils-Aimé has brought so much amazing things to the Nintendo community.
