Mendeleyev, a singer from Santa Barbara, California wowed everyone with his rich baritone as he sang “Girl from the North Country” during the Blind Auditions of The Voice 2019, where he got a 4-chair-turn from the judges.

“Girl from the North Country” is a song by Bob Dylan, released in 1963.

Kelly Clarkson likened Mendeleyev’s voice to the best glass of Pinot Noir ever. She talked so fast while praising Mendeleyev that she forgot to ask his name, which turned out to be a very long one.

Gwen Stefani said she loved how Mendeleyev connected with the audience.

John Legend described Mendeleyev’s performance as unique and artistic. He said that the fireworks in Mendeleyev’s rendition is when he was hitting the low notes and that his tone was rich and beautiful.

Blake Shelton said Mendeleyev’s voice literally “shake the rafters”. Referring to Mendeleyev’s low notes, Blake said it’s a lost art in country music and that it’s cool to see somebody bringing life to “that sound of music again”.

Asked by Legend what kind of artists he wants to cover on the show, Mendeleyev said that Richie Havens, an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, was a huge inspiration for him. John Legend immediately sang a line from one of Havens’ songs. Right then and there, the other judges knew they lost Mendeleyev to Team John.

John Legend said in conclusion that Mendeleyev has a beautiful and rich tone, a deep baritone which makes him stand out in a crowd.
