Devs is an upcoming American drama television miniseries set to premiere in spring of 2020 on Hulu. She believes this company is responsible for the disappearance of her boyfriend.

On March 13, 2018, it was announced that FX had given the production a pilot order. The pilot screenplay was written by Alex Garland who was also expected to direct and executive produce the episode as well. On July 23, 2018, Rob Hardy mentioned in an interview that he would serve as the cinematographer for the series.

On August 3, 2018, it was announced the during the Television Critics Association’s annual summer press tour that FX had decided to bypass the pilot process and instead were giving the production a straight-to-series order consisting of eight episodes set to premiere in 2019. Additional executive producers were reported to include Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, Eli Bush, and Scott Rudin. However, FX decided that they would push the series back to its 2020 premiere, allowing them to have more time on their production and filming.

Garland appeared at the New York Comic Con and explained his reasoning behind the creation of the series: “I read more about science than anything else, and it started with two things. One was getting my head around this principle of determinism, which basically says that everything that happens in the world is based on cause and effect…That has all sorts of implications for us. One is that it takes away free will, but the other is that if you are at a computer powerful enough, you could use determinism to predict the future and understand the past. If you unravel everything about you, about the specifics of you why you prefer a cup of coffee to tea…then five seconds before you said you’d like to have a cup of coffee one would be able to predict you’d ask for it.” In November 2019, it was announced the show would premiere on Hulu instead of FX, as part of “FX on Hulu”.

Sonoya Mizuno is a Japanese-born British actress, model and ballet dancer who has collaborated with director Alex Garland in works such as Ex Machina, Annihilation and Devs. She has had minor roles in the films La La Land, Beauty and the Beast, and Crazy Rich Asians. Mizuno also played a lead character in the Netflix miniseries Maniac.

Nicholas Offerman is an American actor, writer, comedian, producer and carpenter. He is best known for his role as Ron Swanson in the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, for which he received the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy and was twice nominated for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Offerman is also known for his role in The Founder, in which he portrays Richard McDonald, one of the brothers who developed the fast food chain McDonald’s. His first major television role since the end of Parks and Recreation was as Karl Weathers in the FX series Fargo, for which he received a Critics’ Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Movie/Miniseries.
