Family Reunion is an American comedy web television series created by Meg DeLoatch that premiered on Netflix on July 10, 2019. In September 2019, the series was renewed for a second season and a holiday special that premiered on December 9, 2019. The remaining season 1 episodes are set to be released on January 20, 2020.

Family Reunion follows a family of six who travel from Seattle, Washington to Columbus, Georgia for the McKellan Family Reunion and decide to stay in Columbus, Georgia to be closer to their family.

Mazzi is making treats for Cocoa and Moz and they all have a good time together. When Mazzi leaves, he overhears Moz and his uncle Daniel joke about Mazzi’s status as a musician and being ‘musical’, which unintentionally hurts Mazzi’s feelings. Wanting to impress his father, he decides to try out for his school’s football team and makes the cut. However, after playing for a while, he starts to act meaner towards the crowd during the games and begins to treat others disrespectfully including Cocoa, due to the influence of the other players. Moz confronts him which ends up with Mazzi revealing that he overheard him and Daniel’s conversation.

Moz apologizes for his statements while Mazzi revisits playing an instrument and decides to quit football. Meanwhile, Jade decides to enter the town’s beauty pageant and hires a vain and self-centered coach who focuses on a person’s looks rather than their true self. The coach reveals that the reason she wanted to help Jade was because if she were to help a black girl (in this case, Jade) win, it would boost her status. This ends up with Jade wearing a brown afro wig, a spray tan that covers her natural skin color and a dress she doesn’t like. Cocoa engages in an argument with Jade’s pageant coach and tells her off while mentioning to Jade that she’s a beautiful black woman by being herself and doesn’t need the wig or spray tan to show it. Jade competes without those items and wins the pageant, and while also deciding to rock her natural curly hair. Jade, Cocoa and her family celebrate the victory on the porch with cookies made by Mazzi.

While talking with M’Dear and her church friends on the porch, Cocoa reveals that she and Moz were married by a black Elvis impersonator, much to the group’s surprise. Jade takes a locket from M’Dear’s room and wears it to school. Her friends see a photo of two people in the picture and when they ask Jade who they are she doesn’t know, much to the girls’ annoyance. M’Dear discovers this and decides to tell the children the history of the locket. The people in the photo were former slaves who had secretly eloped together, although they would later be separated due to the husband being sold to another slave owner. Refusing to accept this fate, the husband and his pregnant wife managed to successfully escape and had a daughter together.

Afterwards, they started the tradition of passing down the locket to their female descendants and the tradition of hanging a ribbon on a certain broom when the other married their lover. The locket was then passed down from several people with their own stories including M’Dear’s Aunt who was part of a club as a singer and was nearly assaulted by mobsters, although she was luckily saved by her secret lover, who turned out to be the club’s white owner. M’Dear then tells her own story At the end of the story. When she was younger, she and Maybelle snuck out to a party where she met the kids’ grandfather Jeb, although she was dragged home by her father. She later realized that she had lost the locket. Before losing all hope, Jeb appeared at her doorstep with the locket and numerously tried to court her.

Although he was turned down by her overprotective father several times, Jeb finally managed to win her father over and was finally allowed to date M’Dear. Jade and Ami fight over who will get the locket, only for M’Dear to tell the girls that she had already promised their Aunt Grace the locket, but they themselves will get the locket one day. Meanwhile, Cocoa and Moz are revisiting the day of their wedding and spend the night dancing at a club which ends up with Cocoa punching Daniel’s obsessive date in the face due to a misunderstanding. When Cocoa and Moz get home, they tell the kids that the two of them didn’t have a church wedding and after thinking Cocoa proposes to Moz that they remarry and he accepts. They later place their own ribbon on the broom (which M’Dear reveals that they still have), and are watched over by the spirits of their ancestors.

M’Dear introduces Jade to a new boy named Kurt and asks her to show him around town since he just moved. At first, Jade is totally against this but after meeting him she starts to like him as a friend. They hang out on the porch and talk, tell jokes to one another and even go to Prettyboy’s where they play chess. While they are there, Jade encounters a seemingly jealous Drew, which ends with Drew bailing on the bowling date he had asked her to earlier in the episode. Jade’s friends console her over this and Jade decides to not cry over Drew and decides to pursue Kurt instead. Ava then reveals that she has gotten a boyfriend herself, but it turns out that Kurt is her new boyfriend, which places her and Jade in a rivalry.

Meanwhile, Mazzi and Shaka start mowing lawns with Elvis to earn money for a PlayStation but when they try to get inside the house after finishing, a cop finds them and handcuffs them at the house, believing them to be criminals breaking in. After Cocoa and Moz come home and find this, they are shocked and disgusted by the actions that were caused and sue the police officer. That night, Cocoa is forced to explain that the situation was based on their skin color. The boys refuse to go outside out of fear of being arrested again, although they do succeed in gaining their new PlayStation. A few days later, while coming home from a trivia game night (which resulted in a humiliating loss for Cocoa and Moz), the same cop pulls Moz over despite him doing nothing wrong. The cop appears to be angry about the complaint they filed, and leaves them off with a warning. Cocoa, out of paranoia, then decides that the town is no longer safe with the cop out to get them and that they will be moving back to Seattle.
