Before he was unmasked, the Grandfather Clock peformed “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Frank Sinatra. He landed in the bottom two along with Sausage and performed “Can’t Smile Without You” by Barry Manilow during the sing-off. He lost the round to Sausage and was eventually booted off the competition.

Grandfather Clock was revealed as English former footballer and manager Glenn Hoddle. The football legend currently works as television pundit and commentator for ITV Sport and BT Sport. Though some viewers correctly guessed who the Grandfather Clock is, no one among The Masked Singer judges / panelists was able to guess his identity.

After Grandfather Clock was unmasked, Jonathan Ross commented that he was so close, he even mentioned Glenn Hoddle’s name in the process of guessing who Grandfather Clock is. He remembered that Hoddle had a hit single called “Diamond Lights” with fellow footballer Chris Waddle. The single was released in 1987 under their first names, “Glenn & Chris” and reached number 12 in the UK Singles Chart in May 1987.
Hoddle said the panel’s guesses were so close but they didn’t “clock” him.
Asked what it was like being the Grandfather Clock, Hoddle said it was so endearing. When he saw the mask, he just fell in love with it. “It’s been a bit surreal. It’s been great fun, I’ve loved it, it really has. It’s wonderful,” he said. Hoddle joined The Masked Singer because he had always loved singing and grabbed the opportunity when it came. “But I didn’t, you know, it’s easy in the kitchen isn’t it. When you come out here and you get bit dry…” Rita Ora assured Hoddle that he did great.
The clues for Grandfather Clock were explained after the reveal. Hoddle said the Bulgaria postcard was in reference to his England debut against Bulgaria. The SN1 2ED postcode was a clue to Swindon Town Football Club where Glenn was manager. The cowboy boots and spurs were clues to his time at Tottenham Hotspur. Glenn was on the pitch when Maradona used his “hand of God” to score in the World Cup.
Glenn Hoddle (age 63) played as a midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, Monaco, Chelsea and Swindon Town and at international level for England. He was inducted into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame in 2007, which cited him as one of the most gifted and creative English footballers of his generation. He has been manager of Swindon Town, Chelsea, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. He managed England to the second round of the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where they lost to Argentina on penalties.
The second series of the British version of The Masked Singer premiered on ITV on December 26, 2020.
Joel Dommett, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Rita Ora all returned for their second season as host and panelists. Ken Jeong was replaced by British comedian Mo Gilligan on the panel for series two, due to travel restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic which prevented Jeong’s participation.
The series features 12 contestants, namely Badger, Blob, Bush Baby, Dragon, Grandfather Clock, Harlequin, Robin, Sausage, Grandfather Clock, Viking, Seahorse, and Alien.
