The Tulip was unmasked during the Finale of The Masked Dancer Season 1 (2021) after finishing Third Place in the reality competition television series. Before the reveal, Tulip danced to Kings & Queens by Ava Max. Tulip’s stunning performance showed why she became an early favorite in the competition.
A lot of The Masked Dancer fans knew who Tulip is prior to her unmasking. Among the panelists, only Ashley Tisdale was able to correctly guess the celebrity behind the Tulip mask.
So who is Tulip on The Masked Dancer?
The Tulip was revealed as American singer, dancer, actress and model Mackenzie Ziegler, best known for appearing for six years on the Lifetime reality dance series “Dance Moms” together with her older sister, dancer and actress Maddie Ziegler.
Prior to her unmasking, Tulip answered the final questions of the panelists.
Tulip told Ken Jeong that she has a reality show background. She replied to Paula Abdul’s query by saying she’s not from Los Angeles but she lives in the area. Asked by Ashley Tisdale if she has a TikTok obssession, she answered, “Maybe.” She answered “Yes” to Brian Austin Green’s question “Have you been dancing from a young age?”
Host Craig Robinson then asked the panelists for their final guesses as to who Tulip is.
Paula Abdul said that at first she thought of Ariana Grande then Kristen Bell. But with the TikTok clues, she went back to American actress, television host, comedian and YouTuber Liza Koshy, because she knows Liza has older sisters.
Ken Jeong said that it took him weeks to figure out who Tulip is. The TV mom clue led him to think of Modern Family and Sarah Hyland. But with the clues of ale and beauty products, he thought of Lucy Hale who has her own beauty line called Almay. He also said Hale has 25 million followers on Instagram and was in the finals of reality show American Juniors. Ken stuck with his guess that Tulip is Lucy Hale.
Brian Austin Green noted a lot of Disney references. He said he came to a person who has a huge following on TikTok and who did the show Girl Meets World and that this person has sisters she’s really close to. Brian thinks Tulip is American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter.
Ashley Tisdale started with American social media personality and dancer Charlie D’ Amelio because of the TikTok clues. But she landed on Mackenzie Ziegler because Tulip’s photo with a mom reminded her of Dance Moms. Ashley said that Tulip saying she’s in the shadow of her sister may refer to Mackenzie having a famous older sister named Maddie. She said the mad eye with the letter E may mean Maddie. Ashley was confident that Tulip is Mackenzie Ziegler.

Mackenzie Ziegler said being Tulip was so fun and said it’s the best thing she has ever done. “I love Tulip. Behind the mask I could be whoever I wanted to be and I’ve gained more confidence, for sure. I really just wanted everyone to just love her at home and see someone that they can look up to.”
Clues about the Tulip were explained after the reveal. The Mac N’ Cheese was a clue to Mackenzie’s name. The bag of chips was a clue to Mackenzie’s famous line from Dance Moms, “All I wanna do is stay home and eat chips.” The bus ticket AL to DC was a reference to the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC), the setting for the reality TV series Dance Moms. The number 11 in her clue package points to the year when Dance Moms debuted, 2011. The icebergs on the armpits means Pittsburgh, Mackenzie’s birthplace.
Mackenzie Ziegler (age 16) has released two albums and appeared in numerous music videos. She has also appeared in several television shows including “Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn”, Total Eclipse, and Dancing with the Stars: Juniors. She won the Teen Choice Awards in 2018 in the Choice Muser category. Mackenzie is a huge social media influencer with more 15 million Instagram followers, 20 million TikTok followers, 3 million YouTube subscribers, and one million Twitter followers.
