The Zebra was unmasked during the Semifinals on Week 7 of The Masked Dancer Season 1 (2021).
Before the reveal, Zebra danced to “Mack the Knife” by Bobby Darin. The Zebra got the least amount of votes among the semifinalists and he was eventually eliminated from the reality competition. Startattle.com – The Masked Dancer.
Some fans of The Masked Dancer knew who Zebra was prior to his unmasking. Among the panelists, Brian Austin Green and guest Will Arnett were able to correctly guess the celebrity behind the Zebra mask.
So who is Zebra on The Masked Dancer?
The Zebra was revealed as American former professional boxer and currently boxing and mixed martial arts promoter Oscar De La Hoya, aka “The Golden Boy” of boxing, who is ranked as the 16th best boxer of all time, pound for pound, by BoxRec.
Prior to his unmasking, Zebra answered the questions from the panelists.
The Zebra answered “Yes,” when he was asked by Ashley Tisdale if millions of people have watched him on tv. Zebra told Paula Abdul that he performed a lot in Las Vegas. He replied “Yes” when Ken asked if he has a special lady in his life. Replying to guest panelist Will Arnett’s question, Zebra confirmed that he is taller than Ken Jeong. He told Brian Austin Green that he has a major award on his mantel.
Ken Jeong previously thought Zebra could be American singer and songwriter and former Backstreet Boys member Kevin Richardson, based on boy band references and dance moves. But he went back to his earlier guess that Zebra could be a sports entertainer, and could be American professional wrestler, actor, and media personality Michael Gregory “The Miz” Mizanin.
Ashley Tisdale said she picked some Latin vibes so she named American actor and television host Mario Lopez. But based on the clues “UFC” and the gold pot, which made her think of Ireland and the Leprechaun’s pot of gold, she guessed that Zebra could be Irish professional mixed martial artist and boxer Conor McGregor.
Paula Abdul said she knows Zebra is an athlete for a long time. She thought of American former professional baseball shortstop and third baseman Alex Rodriguez aka “A-Rod” and American former professional baseball left fielder Barry Bonds. But there were too many boxing clues. She said two light bulbs on a barbell could mean lightweight, and the K.O. is for knockout. That Zebra is light on his feet and that there was money all over the stage made her think that Zebra could be Floyd “Money” Mayweather.
Brian Austin Green initially thought Zebra could be Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actor Ricky Martin. The fighting clues like UFC on the flying saucer made him think of American mixed martial artist and politician Tito Ortiz. But the initials K.O. and medals made Brian think that Zebra has won gold medals for the United States and fights for both the US and Mexico. Brian was dead certain that Zebra is Oscar De La Hoya.
Will Arnett agreed with Brian and said that Zebra moves like there’s an “overwhelming fighter thing.” Like Brian, Will is certain that Zebra is Oscar De La Hoya, and he’s willing to bet all on that. Will said that if he’s right, people can never doubt him again.

Oscar De La Hoya said being the Zebra was probably the best experience he ever had. Compared to boxing, he said, “I think being the Zebra is a lot tougher.”
Clues about the Zebra were explained after the reveal. The bag labeled $19.92 was a nod to Oscar taking home the gold at the 1992 Olympics. He said the clue about the loved one that he lost pertains to his mother who passed away from breast cancer right before the Olympic Games. He said the gold medal was for her. The Graham cracker with an E was a reference to his Grammy nomination.
Oscar De La Hoya (age 48) won 11 world titles in six weight classes, including the lineal championship in three weight classes in his professional career as a boxer from 1992 to 2008. He won two Olympic Gold Medals when he represented the US in the 1991 and 1992 Olympic Games. In 2002, De La Hoya founded Golden Boy Promotions, a combat sport promotional firm that also owns a 25% stake in the Houston Dynamo.
The Masked Dancer is an American reality competition television series that premiered on Fox on December 27, 2020. Craig Robinson hosts the show, with Ken Jeong, Paula Abdul, Brian Austin Green, and Ashley Tisdale serving as panelists. Like The Masked Singer’s format, celebrity contestants wear head-to-toe costumes and face masks that conceal their identities, but perform alongside a “masked partner”. The show began as a recurring segment on Ellen DeGeneres’ daytime talk show which spoofed The Masked Singer.
The series features 10 contestants who have sold more than 38 million albums worldwide, 20 Emmy Awards wins, 20 Grammy nominations, 10 World Dancing titles, five New York Times Best-Selling Author titles, four Olympic gold medals, and three appearances in Broadway shows.
