The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Watermelon Sugar” is the second track from the second studio album Fine Line (2019) of English singer Harry Styles. The song was inspired by the American novel In Watermelon Sugar (1968) by Richard Brautigan. Released as the album’s fourth single on May 15, 2020, the song peaked within the top ten in more than 20 countries, including the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and the United States, where it became Styles’ first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.
