The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Something in the Water” was released on September 29, 2014 as the lead single of Carrie Underwood’s compilation album Greatest Hits: Decade #1. It reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot Christian Songs charts and also debuted at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is Underwood’s 14th career leader on Hot Country Songs and her second in 2014. The song won the Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance.
