Season: American Idol 2021 (Season 19)
Host: Ryan Seacrest
Judges: Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie
Luke Bryan said Madison Watkins was such a personality and natural entertainer and her look is so striking that sometimes they tend to overlook her voice. But this time, he said Madison’s voice showed up and showcased it at a level he has not seen before. Lionel Richie said Madison did what other people don’t understand about a duet – she reacted to something she (Tori) did. Madison was not just singing and thinking about her notes, she was engaged with the person she’s dueting with. Katy Perry was amazed that Tori and Madison took the song up three times. “That was vocal Olympics right then and there. It was great. It was fantastic. Keep bringing those moments that stand out.”
The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Holy” was released on September 18, 2020, as the lead single off Justin Bieber’s sixth studio album, Justice. It features vocals from American rapper Chance the Rapper, marking the pair’s fifth collaboration. The song debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, and topped the US Adult Top 40. Billboard named it the 41st best song of 2020.
