France 2021

France is a 21st-century treatment of the difficulty of maintaining identity in a corrosive culture. The film seeks to compare the public crisis of France de Meurs, a young star journalist of a private French television station with a portrait of contemporary France. It is also intended to be a satire of the treatment of information by television channels.

This film is produced by Rachid Bouchareb, Jean Bréhat, and Muriel Merlin. France had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 15, 2021, and was nominated for the Palme d’Or. It was released in France and Switzerland on August 25, 2021. France will debut in select US theaters on December 10, 2021, by Kino Lorber.
