It’s 1988 and Simone Burbeck has it all: a picture-perfect family, a posh London mansion, luxury cars and mega-yachts. There’s just one problem: it’s all lies. When her husband d–s in a mishap with a s– worker, Simone finds herself broke and homeless. Left with no other options, she and her two children are forced to return to her childhood home in Newcastle, Australia, where it quickly becomes evident that her past doesn’t quite fit the script she used in London. But as Sammy (her real name) maps a strategy to get back to England, the life and people she ran away from over 20 years ago slowly pull her back in.
Frayed is an Australian and British television comedy drama series created and written by Australian comedian Sarah Kendall, who also stars in it. The series is produced by Nicole O’Donohue and directed by Shaun Wilson and Jennifer Leacey. It premiered in the United Kingdom and in Australia in 2019. In May 2020, it was announced that Frayed had been picked up in the United States as an HBO Max exclusive, where its first season was released on July 30, 2020. Frayed was renewed for a second season of six episodes which aired in September 2021 in Australia, and which will air on HBO Max on November 4, 2021.
