Elijah McCormick had to relearn how to walk and talk again after a severe car accident on his high school graduation day. He spent 79 days in the hospital enduring multiple surgeries and as soon as he could speak again, the first question he asked was “Mama, can I sing?” His mom had signed Elijah up to audition back in 2019 – now just a few years later, he’s here at American Idol to fulfill his destiny. The judges compare “golden child” Elijah, who was almost taken too soon, to the late Willie Spence, a shining IDOL star who did go too soon.

The twenty-first season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 19, 2023, on the ABC television network. It is the sixth season to air on ABC since the series’ revival. Ryan Seacrest returned as host, and Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie returned as judges. The Idol Across America virtual auditions program returned from the previous two seasons. The remote auditions took place from August 3 to September 14, 2022, as well as a number of open-call auditions, and from these, the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Bless the Broken Road” is a song that has been recorded by several American country music artists. Co-written by Marcus Hummon, Bobby Boyd, and Jeff Hanna in 1994, it tells how the journey through relationship heartbreak and disappointment was an important series of lessons along the broken road to finding one’s true love. It was first recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1994, followed by Hummon on his 1995 album All in Good Time. Since then, many artists have recorded the song with Rascal Flatts’ version being the highest-charting, becoming a number 1 hit on the Billboard country music charts in 2005 and earning the songwriters a Grammy Award for Best Country Song.
