Blink of an Eye is a documentary about the star-crossed relationship between Michael Waltrip, the losingest driver in all of sports, and Dale Earnhardt, the most feared and iconic driver in NASCAR history.
At the start of the 2001 season, Michael Waltrip broke his 462-race losing streak and won the Daytona 500 in an epic, but heart-breaking fashion, in what is considered the Super Bowl of motorsports.
On the last lap of the race, the running order is Michael in first, Earnhardt’s son “Jr” in second, and Earnhardt himself in third. Earnhardt blocks the field of 40 cars behind him to protect Michael and Jr. As Michael takes his first win, Earnhardt is swept up in what looks to be a minor crash but which turned out to be fatal.
Michael paid back the debt in a dramatic fashion on his emotionally-charged return to Daytona, and a race to the finish with Dale’s son, Dale Earnhardt, Jr.
Blink of an Eye is based on the New York Times bestselling book and directed by Paul Taublieb.
