Greed had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September 2019, and is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom and the US on 21 February 2020, by Sony Pictures Releasing.

It was announced in November 2016 that Fox Searchlight was looking to acquire the distribution rights to the film, with Michael Winterbottom set as director and Sacha Baron Cohen in the lead role.

No further development on the film was announced until September 2018, when Steve Coogan replaced Cohen, and with David Mitchell and Isla Fisher joining the cast.

In December 2018, it was revealed that filming had concluded, with additional castings being revealed, including Sophie Cookson, Shirley Henderson, Asa Butterfield and Stephen Fry.

Greed had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 7 September 2019. Prior to that, Sony Pictures Classics acquired U.S. distribution rights to the film. It is scheduled to be released in the US and the United Kingdom on February 21, 2020.

English actor, comedian, and producer Stephen John Coogan (age 54) plays the lead role of Sir Richard McCreadie in Greed. Coogan began his career in the 1980s, working as a voice artist on the satirical puppet show Spitting Image and providing voiceovers for TV advertisements. In the early 1990s, he began creating original comic characters and co-founded the production company Baby Cow Productions with Henry Normal in 1999. He developed Alan Partridge, a socially inept and politically incorrect media personality, a character later featured in several TV series and a 2013 film; Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Coogan became more known within the film industry in 2002, after starring in The Parole Officer and 24 Hour Party People. He portrayed Phileas Fogg in the 2004 remake Around the World in 80 Days and co-starred with Rob Brydon in The Trip, The Trip to Italy, and The Trip to Spain, as well as A Cock and Bull Story.

Coogan has also starred in the films What Maisie Knew (2012), The Look of Love (2013) and Stan & Ollie (2018). In 2013, he co-wrote, produced, and starred in the film Philomena, which earned him nominations at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs, and as well as two at the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.

Alongside Coogan, Greed stars David Mitchell (age 45), who plays the role of Nick in the film. Mitchell is a British comedian, actor, writer and TV presenter best known as the half of the comedy duo Mitchell and Webb, with Robert Webb. The duo starred in the Channel 4 sitcom Peep Show. Mitchell won the British Academy Television Award for Best Comedy Performance in 2009 for his performanc as Mark Corrigan in the show. The duo have written and starred in several sketch shows including Bruiser, The Mitchell and Webb Situation, That Mitchell and Webb Sound and also That Mitchell and Webb Look. Mitchell and Webb also starred in the UK version of Apple’s Get a Mac advertisement campaign. Their first film, Magicians, was released in 2007.

Mitchell starred in the sitcom Think the Unthinkable and currently hosts the BBC Radio 4 panel game The Unbelievable Truth (2007–). He also stars in the Channel 4 comedy-drama Back (2017–) alongside Robert Webb, and the critically acclaimed Ben Elton-penned BBC Two historical comedy Upstart Crow (2016–). Aside from these, Mitchell is a frequent participant on British panel shows, being a team captain on Would I Lie to You?, and the former host of The Bubble and Was It Something I Said? He is a frequent guest on other panel shows, including QI, The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, Mock the Week, 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown and Have I Got News for You.

Australian actress and author Isla Fisher (age 43) plays Samantha McCreadie in the film. Fisher began her career on Australian TV, appearing in TV commercials at a young age. She became popular for her portrayal of Shannon Reed on the soap opera Home and Away from 1994 to 1997, garnering two Logie Award nominations.

Fisher made a successful transition to Hollywood in the live-action film adaptation of Scooby-Doo (2002), and has since achieved popularity for her roles in the films Wedding Crashers (2005), Hot Rod (2007), Confessions of a Shopaholic (2009), The Great Gatsby (2013), and Now You See Me (2013). Her other notable film credits include I Heart Huckabees (2004), The Lookout (2007), Definitely, Maybe (2008), Burke & Hare (2010), Bachelorette (2012), Visions (2015), Grimsby, Nocturnal Animals, Keeping Up with the Joneses (all 2016), and Tag (2018).

In addition, Fisher has voiced characters in animated films such as Horton Hears a Who! (2008), Rango (2011), and Rise of the Guardians (2012). On TV, she played a recurring role on the fourth and fifth seasons of Arrested Development (2013, 2018). Fisher has also authored two young adult novels and the Marge in Charge book series.
