It is a remake of the 1983 film Valley Girl, it stars Jessica Rothe,Josh Whitehouse, Chloe Bennet, Jessie Ennis, Ashleigh Murray, Logan Paul, Mae Whitmanand Peyton List.

In November 2016, it was announced Jessica Rothe would star in the film, with Rachel Lee Goldenberg would direct the film, from a screenplay by Amy Talkington, with Matt Smith producing. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer will produce and distribute the film. In January 2017, Josh Whitehouse joined the cast of the film. In April 2017, Chloe Bennet, Ashleigh Murray, Jessie Ennis, and Logan Paul joined the cast. In May 2017, Mae Whitman also joined the cast. In June 2017, Peyton List joined the cast of the film.
The film was scheduled to be released on June 29, 2018, however, it was pulled from the schedule, following controversies surrounding Logan Paul. It is scheduled to be released on May 8, 2020. It was originally supposed to be a theatrical release on that date, but was changed to a digital release due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
