Belinda Davis (age 43), a singer who grew up in Port Elizabeth, South Africa performed an amazing cover of “One Moment in Time” by Whitney Houston during the Auditions round on Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Series 14).
During the opening chat, Belinda said her heart is pretty much up in her throat. Saying she’s on BGT to further her career, Belinda described herself as a singer who do mostly Whitney Houston songs. She chose “One Moment in Time” because it reminds her of her two boys and said that the most important thing for her to do is to make her kids proud.
Belinda sounded very much like Whitney when she sang, scaling the notes like one of the greatest divas the world has ever known. Though Belinda does not have formal vocal training, she reportedly has a 4-octave vocal range.
The audience and the BGT judges gave her a standing ovation for her incredible performance. The judges ultimately gave her four YES votes, advancing her to the next round of the competition.

Before joining BGT, Belinda Davids has already carved out a career singing her idol Whitney Houston’s songs. She had released an eponymous original album in the mid 1990s under Tusk Records, with one of its songs reaching number one on the RISA charts in South Africa for six weeks, according to Outclique magazine.
Belinda was the opening act for many international artists who performed in South Africa like Michael Jackson, The Manhattans, The Temptations and Peaches and Herbs. She subsequently spent many years on the road, performing in major hotels and clubs. She tried to launch a solo career in Los Angeles but because she looked and sounded like Whitney Houston, she encountered resistance from record labels. She ended up as successful backing vocalist.
Then in 2013, Belinda beat almost 15,000 hopefuls in the final round of global auditions for Showtime Australia’s The Greatest Love of All by creator and producer John Van Grinsven. The show has now toured across much of the globe, with Belinda in the marquee role. Aside from her lead role in the show, Belinda also won BBC’s Even Better Than the Real Thing tv talent program in 2017.

Britain’s Got Talent (aka BGT) is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. It is hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (also known as Ant and Dec), and produced by both Thames (formerly Talkback Thames) and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year. The show premiered on June 9, 2007 following the success of America’s Got Talent the previous year.
Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate. Auditionees seek to impress a panel of judges – at present, consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams – in order to secure a place in the live rounds of BGT. The winner gets a cash prize and a place within that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14) will air in two parts, the first in April 2020 with pre-recorded audition episodes, while the second containing the live rounds to be aired at a later date. The series was split into two parts because of the Covid-19 pandemic or coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown issued by the British government.
