Crissy Lee, a 76-year-old musician, surprised everyone with her incredible drumming skills as she performed to a medley of rock songs during the Auditions round of Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14).
Everyone thought that the septuagenarian dressed in a cardigan would do something like comedy, as what Simon Cowell expected.
Backstage, Crissy described herself as semi-retired and that she has a caravan. It turns out that Crissy Lee, who was born in Colchester, Essex, is no ordinary drummer. Her website says she is one of UK’s and Europe’s finest female drummers who had worked alongside celebrities like The Beatles, Dinah Washington, and Al Jarreau, among others. She had a series of TV appearances with the Jack Parnell Big Band, The Ray Conniff Orchestra and Johnnie Patrick and had participated in music festivals in Europe and in other parts of the globe. She has her own Crissy Lee Jazz Orchestra (formed in 1999), which had come up with a CD in collaboration with Paul Stevenson. She also has her own percussion studio called “Fiddlesticks”, with many of her pupils becoming professional drummers.
Joining BGT is her “swan song”, said Crissy and if she wins, she would spend her money on holidays and will possibly take her caravan abroad.
Crissy’s rocking performance earned her a standing ovation from the audience and the judges. As expected, Britain’s Got Talent judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams gave Crissy Lee 4 yes votes, advancing her to the next round of the competition.

Simon Cowell commented, “I really thought, God, you’re gonna be a really bad comedian. I’m gonna have to pretend to like you because of your age and it’s gonna be…and then you did that. And I think that’s what this show is all about, surprises and talent. I’ll definitely gonna remember you Crissy, and I would love to see you in the finals.”
Alesha Dixon said the fact that Crissy Lee is 77 and still rocking out, still look cool, and still doing something she’s passionate about is “really inspiring” and makes Crissy even more amazing.
David Walliams commented, “You’re an inspiration. You’re fantastic. It doesn’t matter what age you are, you can do whatever makes you happy.”
Britain’s Got Talent (aka BGT) is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. It is hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (also known as Ant and Dec), and produced by both Thames (formerly Talkback Thames) and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year. The show premiered on June 9, 2007 following the success of America’s Got Talent the previous year.
Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate. Auditionees seek to impress a panel of judges – at present, consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams – in order to secure a place in the live rounds of BGT. The winner gets a cash prize and a place within that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14) will air in two parts, the first in April 2020 with pre-recorded audition episodes, while the second containing the live rounds to be aired at a later date. The series was split into two parts because of the Covid-19 pandemic or coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown issued by the British government.
