The Bush Baby was unmasked during Episode 5 on The Masked Singer UK (Series 2). His identity was revealed after he was eliminated from the reality singing competition on January 23, 2021. Startattle.com – The Masked Singer UK.
Before he was unmasked, the Bush Baby peformed “Release Me” by Engelbert Humperdinck and landed in the bottom two along with Dragon. He lost the round to Dragon and was eventually eliminated from the competition.
So who is the Bush Baby on The Masked Singer UK 2021?
Bush Baby was revealed as English actor and comedian John Thomson (age 51), who is best known for his role as Pete Gifford in the British comedy-drama television series Cold Feet. He is also known for starring in the shows Men Behaving Badly, The Fast Show, and Coronation Street.
Though a few viewers correctly guessed who the Bush Baby is, no one among The Masked Singer judges / panelists was able to guess his identity.

After Bush Baby was unmasked, Jonathan Ross commented that he mentioned Thomson earlier, when he was trying to guess the celebrity behind the mask. Ross said he should have picked on the song “Release Me,” which is the theme song of The Fast Show, the comedy sketch show where Thomson was one of the central performers.
Asked what it was like being the Bush Baby, Thomson said, “I have to say, as a Northerner who doesn’t feel the cold, who is already covered in hair, it’s not been the greatest, to be honest.” He said there’s a sense of relief for being unmasked. But he later said he enjoyed it all and joked that at the end of his stint on the show, “there’s a job for me at Disney.”
The clues for Bush Baby were explained after the reveal. Thomson said the clues with the magic referred to his being an amateur magician. The zoo was a clue to Saturday Zone, a variety comedy show with Jonathan Ross himself as presenter and wherein Thomson appeared as Larry Wyze. The hanging socks hinted towards acting in Cold Feet. The cooking references hinted towards Thomson taking part in Celebrity Masterchef. The briefcase was a clue to playing a children’s entertainer in Coronation Street. The Chekhov book pointed to Thomson’s being a classically trained actor.
The second series of the British version of The Masked Singer premiered on ITV on December 26, 2020.
Joel Dommett, Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall, and Rita Ora all returned for their second season as host and panelists. Ken Jeong was replaced by British comedian Mo Gilligan on the panel for series two, due to travel restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic which prevented Jeong’s participation.
The series features 12 contestants, namely Alien, Badger, Blob, Bush Baby, Dragon, Grandfather Clock, Harlequin, Robin, Sausage, Seahorse, Swan, and Viking.
