The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol will premiere on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest will return as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will return as judges and Bobby Bones will return as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
Erika Perry says she’s known as “ET,” because she’s “extraterrestrial and completely out of this world!” After hearing her perform “E.T.” by Katy Perry and Kanye West, the judges have to be honest…they don’t really get it.
