Deshawn Goncalves received a standing ovation from all the judges. Katy Perry thinks Deshawn has one of the most unique, top three voices this season. But she just wants Deshawn to not let his body be so stiff, so she’d know he’s having fun. Luke Bryan said Deshawn has such great tone and maneuvers, but agrees with Katy’s observation. He said Deshawn should just walk out and be the star. Lionel Richie said almost the same thing. He told Deshawn, “Just enjoy ‘you.’ Enjoy the audience, enjoy the stage. And if you hit something wrong, so what?” Katy added it’s not about the notes but the whole package.
The nineteenth season of the reality show singing competition American Idol premiered on February 14, 2021 on the ABC television network. It is the fourth season to air on ABC since the series reboot; Ryan Seacrest returns as host. Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie return as judges and Bobby Bones as mentor.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, the show offered its first ever live virtual auditions to aspiring contestants through its Idol Across America program using custom-built Zoom technology. The remote auditions took place from August 10 to October 28, 2020 in 50 states plus Washington, D.C. as well as a number of open call auditions, and from these the producers selected the contestants who can then audition in front of the judges.
“Forever Young” is a song recorded by Bob Dylan in California in November 1973. The song first appeared on Dylan’s fourteenth studio album Planet Waves (1974). A live version of the song, recorded in Tokyo on February 28, 1978 and included on Dylan’s album Bob Dylan at Budokan, was released as a European single in 1979.
