The fifth season of the American television series The Masked Singerhad its premiere on Fox on March 10, 2021.
Singer-songwriter Robin Thicke, television and radio personality Jenny McCarthy, actor and comedian Ken Jeong, and recording artist Nicole Scherzinger will return for their fifth season as panelists. Regular host Nick Cannon tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before production was set to begin in February 2021. Niecy Nash was guest host for the first five episodes of the season. Cannon returned to the show on Week 5 – Group B Finals as “Bulldog” and was unmasked during the episode.
The season began with two groups of five, Group A and Group B, then will introduce a new twist in which “wild card” contestants will enter the competition throughout the run of the show for a chance to unseat another contestant. The contestants for Season 5 have a combined “26 Grammy nominations, nine multi-platinum singles, four Oscar nominations, three Super Bowl appearances, six gold medals and two world records among them”. Costumes for this season include Black Swan, Chameleon, Grandpa Monster, Phoenix, Piglet, Raccoon, Robopine, Russian Dolls, Seashell, and Snail. This season also includes a non-contestant mask called “Cluedle-Doo”, who will interrupt the show and give out new clues.
“I Think We’re Alone Now” was the title selection from a same-named album released by the American recording artists Tommy James and the Shondells. Released in 1967, the song reached number 1 on the WLS Silver Dollar Survey and number 4 on the Hot 100. It has been covered several times by other artists, most notably by Tiffany Darwish in 1987. Tiffany’s version reached number 1 on the charts of various countries including the US, UK, Canada, and New Zealand.
