It seems like the sequel to the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie is reportedly in development, though Warner Brothers has not officially greenlighted it.

Warner Brothers owns the option to book author Kevin Kwan‘s bestselling trilogy, of which “Crazy Rich Asians” is the first installment.

Book 2 of the series is “China Rich Girlfriend” which came out in 2015, while the last Kevin Kwan book in the trilogy is titled “Rich People’s Problems”, published in 2017.

After the resounding success of the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie (USD 84 million gross worldwide as of August 26), all fingers are pointing to a screen adaptation of the second book in the trilogy, the “China Rich Girlfriend.”

Jon M. Chu, the director of the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie has confirmed his return for the sequel.

Reports are in that Jon M. Chu will reunite with producers of the original “Crazy Rich Asians” including producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, and John Penotti and with screenwriters Peter Chiarell and Adele Lim.

As to the original cast of the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie, Henry Golding (Nick Young), Constance Wu (Rachel Chu), and Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor Sung-Young) have options to return for the sequels.

Gemma Chan, who plays Nick Young’s cousin Astrid, and Harry Shum Jr., who is Charlie Wu in the “Crazy Rich Asians” movie, might take on bigger roles in the sequel.

The romance between Astrid and Charlie will be further explored in “China Rich Girlfriend“.

The character of gold digger Kitty Pong, originally played by Singaporean actress Fione Xie, will also have an expanded role in the Crazy Rich Asians sequel, according to Director Jon M. Chu.

With regards to the funny best friend of Rachel named Goh Peik Lin, which was played by rapper-actress and tv personality Awkwafina, one only needs to see the audience reaction to know that she must be included in the sequel.

No deal has been finalized yet nor officially announced by Warner Brothers, but the way things are going, majority of the creative team as well as the main cast will reunite for the “Crazy Rich Asians” sequel titled “China Rich Girlfriend“.

Since the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” is such a big hit in the Philippines, the question that haunts Filipino moviegoers when it comes to a sequel is, will Queen of All Media Kris Aquino reprise her role as Princess Intan?

Filipino “super fans”, as Kevin Kwan calls them, will be very pleased if Kris Aquino would have some screen time in the Crazy Rich Asians sequel, even if it would be as brief as in the original.
