Papi Flex (age 26) from Belgium performed an extreme contortion act that shocked the judges and the audience during the Auditions round on Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14).
Among the BGT judges, it was only Alesha Dixon who watched Papi Flex perform with a straight face. She seemed fascinated and in awe of what the contortionist does with his body.
David Walliams gave up watching the moment Papi Flex started twisting his body in a frightening display of flexibility. Amanda Holden freaked out, screamed, covered her mouth in fear, and mostly turned her face away from the performance. Simon Cowell looked at Papi Flex’s routine every now and then but also covered his mouth when Papi Flex bent his forefinger like it was gonna break off.
The presenters were a study in contrast. Anthony McPartlin (aka Ant) jumped up and down like an excited kid, saying, “Look, look, look!” With his back turned away from the stage and the viewing screen, Declan “Dec” Donnelly replied with a “No, no, no!”
Although majority of the judges got scared of Papi Flex’s performance at one point or the other, they all gave him “Yes” votes because of his extraordinary talent.
Participant: Papi Flex
Audition Result: 4 Yes Votes, Advanced to the next round
Prior to joining Britain’s Got Talent, Papi Flex was a semi-finalist in Spain’s Got Talent Season 5 (2019).
David Walliams was a wreck and can hardly look at Papi Flex’s performance. Asked what he thinks, he replied, “I think I’m gonna throw up my lasagna…I just can’t watch it. I mean it’s impressive but it is so disturbing to watch someone be that bending.”
Simon Cowell said it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. “But what you do… and I love the way you stay in character and don’t talk to us – it’s brilliant. I love that. We need more monsters.”
Alesha Dixon commented, “I’ve got no words, it was just absolutely fantastic.” Amanda Holden agreed.
All four judges gave Papi Flex their “Yes” votes. David said he couldn’t watch but it’s a “Yes” based on talent. Simon concluded, “Whatever you are, wherever you’re from, I don’t care. I love you. Four yeses.”
Britain’s Got Talent (aka BGT) is a televised British talent show competition, and part of the global Got Talent franchise created by Simon Cowell. It is hosted by Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly (also known as Ant & Dec), and produced by both Thames (formerly Talkback Thames) and Syco Entertainment, distributed by Fremantle, and broadcast on ITV every year. The show premiered on June 9, 2007 following the success of America’s Got Talent the previous year.
Every year, contestants of any age can audition for the contest with whatever talent they wish to demonstrate. Auditionees seek to impress a panel of judges – at present, consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and David Walliams – in order to secure a place in the live rounds of BGT. The winner gets a cash prize and a place within that year’s performances for the Royal Variety Performance before members of the British Royal Family.
On average, Britain’s Got Talent draws 9.9 million viewers per series. A spin-off titled Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, featuring the same judges and hosts, was later produced and broadcast in 2019, following the success of the American edition’s spin-off America’s Got Talent: The Champions. Britain’s Got Talent is contracted to run until 2024.
Britain’s Got Talent 2020 (Season 14) will air in two parts, the first in April 2020 with pre-recorded audition episodes, while the second containing the live rounds to be aired at a later date. The series was split into two parts because of the Covid-19 pandemic or coronavirus outbreak and the resulting lockdown issued by the British government.
