Every month, when the welfare money runs out, 35 year-old Catherine (Anastasia Phillips) has to talk her self-destructive mother Tammy (Felicity Huffman) off the ledge of the same bridge…literally. This routine has gone on for so long that it’s the only thing Cathy feels she’s good at. And its Tammy’s selfish way of keeping hold of her daughter.
When Tammy is diagnosed with terminal cancer and the possibility of life without her becomes very real, so does Cathy’s repressed desire to leave her small town. To profit from their misfortune and from her mother’s life story, Catherine invites a television producer to document her process of caring for her mother. But her plans are complicated by one problem – Tammy just won’t die.

In December 2018, it was announced that Felicity Huffman, Anastasia Phillips, Clark Johnson, Lauren Holly and Aaron Ashmore had joined the cast of the film, with Amy Jo Johnson directing from a screenplay by Joanne Sarazen.
Principal photography for the film concluded in December 2018 in Hamilton, Ontario.
Tammy’s Always Dying had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5, 2019, where it was nominated for Best Canadian Feature Film. Quiver Distribution acquired U.S. distribution rights in March 2020 and is set to release the film via VOD on May 1, 2020.
